EVIDENCE-BASED TREATMENT FOR PTSD: PROLONGED EXPOSURE THERAPY (PE) – EDNA FOA
Numerous well-controlled studies have shown that Prolonged Exposure (PE) significantly reduces the symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anger and anxiety in trauma survivors. Practitioners throughout the world currently use PE to successfully treat survivors of varied traumas including rape, assault, child abuse, combat, motor vehicle accidents and disasters. Prolonged exposure is a theoretically-based and highly efficacious treatment producing clinically significant improvements in about 80% of patients with chronic PTSD.

Learn how to use two procedures, Imaginal Exposure & Vivo Exposure, to help clients realize the impact of their PTSD. In both of these procedures are exposed to imagery of their traumatic memories, as well as real-life situations related to the traumatic event in a step-by-step, controllable way. Through these exposures, your client will learn to confront the trauma and begin to think differently about it, leading to a marked decrease in levels of anxiety and other PTSD symptoms.
