Session Objectives:
1. Describe the epidemiology of infections associated with injection drug use (IDU)
2. Summarize Maine Medical Center endocarditis and harm reduction studies
3. Understand evidence-based strategies to prevent IDU-associated infections

Dr. Thakarar is an infectious disease (ID) and addiction medicine physician with a special interest in health services research related to ID/addiction issues. She is currently an attending physician at Maine Medical Partners, an affiliated investigator at the Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation in Portland, Maine, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Maine Medical Center/Tufts University School of Medicine.
