According to the American Farm Bureau, filings for Chapter 12 bankruptcy rose by 19 percent across the Midwest in 2018. In 2019, Midwest farmers faced economic pressure from markets, tariffs, and record flooding that affected over 1.1 million acres. The relief provided by Chapter 12 may allow distressed farmers the greatest opportunity to maintain their livelihood and protect their families.
