As a field, animal law is expansive and wide-ranging and can encompass many areas of the law. This program is intended as an introduction to and overview of Missouri and Federal animal laws and regulations that cover both companion animals and farmed animals.
Among the topics covered with be:
- Crimes involving animals, including animal abuse, neglect, abandonment, poaching/rustling, and trafficking in endangered or exotic animals under Missouri law and the Animal Welfare Act
- Distinctions in the laws regarding treatment of companion animals, farmed animals, and research animal subjects
- Overview of laws governing humane societies, animal shelters and rescues, and breeder
- Disease control, especially rabies control
