Rheumatologic Laboratory Tests
Lt. Col. Erica Hill, DO, FACP, FACR
Rheumatologic laboratory tests are commonly ordered by physicians. A positive test is rarely diagnostic of a specific disease and must be interpreted in the appropriate clinical context. This session will highlight the diagnostic utility and clinical significance of commonly ordered rheumatologic laboratory tests.
Objectives:
- Review common rheumatologic test characteristics and diagnostic utility
- Review indications for ordering specific tests
- Discuss indications for referral to a rheumatologist

Stephen Brint Carlton Related seminars and products: 1
Stephen Brint Carlton, J.D., of Orange, Texas, has experience as a county judge and prosecutor for Orange County, and prior to that was in private law practice. He holds a Master of Health Administration from the University of Florida at Gainesville and his Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration degrees from St. Mary's University in San Antonio. Carlton also has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Carlton also holds the rank of Major in the United States Air Force Reserve, and joined the United States Air Force as a first lieutenant, Medical Service Corps officer, after graduating from the University of Florida. He spent nearly four years on active duty stationed at the 17th Medical Group, Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas. He was responsible for disaster management and group practice management as a health administrator. Mr. Carlton also deployed to the 386th Expeditionary Medical Group, Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait for six months in 2009 and helped coordinate aeromedical evacuation missions for Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
Erica Hill Related seminars and products: 2
Lieutenant Colonel Erica Hill graduated from the US Air Force Academy in 2002 and served as a personnel officer for two years. She graduated from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2008 and completed internal medicine residency at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio in 2011.Dr Hill completed rheumatology fellowship in 2013 at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC), Texas and received the American College of Rheumatology Distinguished Fellow Award. She has served at SAMMC since 2013. She deployed to Iraq (2004) and Afghanistan (2015). Dr Hill is board certified in Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. She is currently the Program Director for the SAMMC rheumatology fellowship.
