Description
In this lecture, you will how the illicit substance abuse environment is constantly changing. Physicians need to be aware of the multiple possibilities, trends in use/abuse, and new toxicology information that may be applicable to their patient population.
Goals & Objectives:
· Describe the current illicit drug economy and environment
· Define important toxidromes that require specific therapies
· Name new toxidromes that have been described in association with novel illicit drugs
Accreditation Statements:
The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of .75 AOA Category 2-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation.

Dr. Schwarz is at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis where he is Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, Director of the Medical Toxicology Fellowship, Section Chief in Medical Toxicology and Advisory Dean in the Office of Student Affairs. He serves on several committees at Wash U and at Barnes Jewish Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine in Emergency Medicine and in Medical Toxicology. Dr. Schwarz also serves his profession as a committee member on multiple committees for the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American College of Medical Toxicology, the Missouri College of Emergency Physicians and the Midwest Chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
