According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, about 54 million Americans have osteoporosis and low bone mass, putting them at increased risk for osteoporosis. Approximately 1 in 2 women and up to 1 in 4 men age 50 and older will break a bone due to osteoporosis. Falls are the leading cause of injury-related death and nonfatal injuries in adults age 65 and older. The National Council on Aging reports that every 15 seconds, an older adult is seen in the ER for a fall-related injury. This problem becomes more prevalent as the population of older adults increases. However, with appropriate nutrition, exercise, and guidance from well-trained professionals, adults can live more active and enjoyable lives.
This recording provides you with hands-on, practical insight into some of the physical changes occurring in the spines of older adults. Gain easy-to-use tools to understand the risk factors for a fall-related incident and identify clients most at risk of falls.
